The Vantablack Manifest
Commissioned from the storm-sorcerer collective known as the Fulcrum Atelier by a traveling critic who claimed the world deserved to see its greatest fighter at his absolute best, the Vantablack Manifest was built on one philosophy: impact should be visible from a distance. The cloak and lacquer are bonded to the soul of the attuned, meaning the Manifest literally cannot be worn to its full potential by anyone who does not believe, unreservedly, that they are worth watching. Tortles who commission formal reviews from its current bearer report that simply reading the documentation causes their scales to stand on end.
Mechanics
A storm-charged cloak and shell-lacquer set that makes you look legendary while filling the battlefield with echoing lightning afterimages of yourself.
Chromatic Shell
While wearing this cloak, your natural shell or armor crackles with a deep iridescent lacquer that shifts between midnight black and electric blue as you move. You gain a +1 bonus to AC. Additionally, when you are the target of any attack, a faint crackling silhouette of you appears 5 feet away in any unoccupied space you can see, persisting until the start of your next turn. Attackers that miss you must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or use their next attack to target the silhouette (which has the same AC as you and is destroyed automatically by any hit). This silhouette is purely a product of blinding luminescence and requires no action from you.
Broadcast Quality
The Vantablack Manifest records your most impressive moments. Whenever you reduce a creature to 0 hit points or score a critical hit, a thunderclap sounds and a flash of blue-white lightning illuminates you dramatically. All creatures within 60 feet that can see you must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened of you until the end of their next turn. Creatures that succeed on the saving throw are immune to this effect for 24 hours. You automatically succeed on all Charisma (Persuasion) and Charisma (Performance) checks made to impress, entertain, or promote yourself to any creature that witnessed this effect within the last hour.
Storm Brand
Your melee weapon attacks deal an additional 2d8 lightning damage on a hit. When you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack and deal lightning damage this way, the target's speed is reduced by 10 feet until the start of your next turn as crackling arcs root them momentarily, this reduction does not stack with itself.
Signature Strike (3/Day)
Once per turn when you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack, you can activate this property (no action required). The attack deals an additional 4d10 lightning damage and the target must succeed on a DC 18 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. A bolt of lightning then leaps from the target to up to two other creatures of your choice within 15 feet of it, dealing 2d10 lightning damage to each (DC 18 Dexterity saving throw for half). This effect is usable three times per day, regaining all uses at dawn.
The Living Review
Once per dawn, you can speak a command word as a bonus action to summon a Manifest Doppel, a crackling lightning construct that perfectly mirrors your appearance, hovering up to 30 feet away in a space you can see. The Doppel lasts for 1 minute. It has AC equal to yours, 1 hit point, immunity to lightning damage, and cannot take actions. Each creature that starts its turn within 10 feet of the Doppel must succeed on a DC 18 Constitution saving throw or take 3d6 lightning damage. You can dismiss the Doppel as a bonus action. The Doppel replicates your current cosmetic appearance exactly, including your lacquered shell, witnesses who see the Doppel and the real you simultaneously have disadvantage on saving throws against Broadcast Quality.
DM Notes
Balance considerations: This item delivers significant offensive power through Storm Brand (passive 2d8 lightning per hit) stacked with Signature Strike (up to 4d10 + 2d10 splash, 3/day). For a Fighter with Extra Attack, the passive lightning rider alone will add meaningful damage per round, verify this does not trivialize encounters at your table's current CR range. Chromatic Shell's silhouette redirect is the most disruptive defensive feature; it can effectively cause an enemy to waste an attack action, which is strong against single-big-hitter enemies, consider whether boss-tier enemies should have advantage on the Wisdom save. Broadcast Quality's automatic Persuasion/Performance success is intentionally open-ended for roleplay; discuss with the player what 'witnessed the effect' means in practice so it does not become a blanket social bypass. The Living Review Doppel is primarily a zoning and flavor tool, not a combat powerhouse, its 1 HP means a single attack ends it, so it rewards clever positioning over tanking. The cross-ability interaction between the Doppel and Broadcast Quality (disadvantage on saves) is a fun combo but requires setup; the Doppel must survive until the next critical hit or kill, which is not guaranteed. Recommended for a fighter at levels 15-20.
