Warmth of the Steadfast
Woven by field medics during an age of endless border skirmishes, these wraps were blessed by traveling priests who knew that glory meant little if a soldier bled out before dawn. The stitching along the edges spells out an old saying in a long-dead dialect: 'Hold on. The light is coming.' Many veterans swear they felt warmer the moment one was pressed against their wounds.
Mechanics
A wrap of enchanted linen that stabilizes the dying and soothes fresh wounds once per dawn.
Steadfast Binding
As an action, you press this wrap against a creature that has 0 hit points. That creature immediately stabilizes, as though a successful DC 10 Wisdom (Medicine) check had been made, without requiring any tool or skill roll. This effect can be used on any creature within reach.
Lingering Warmth
Once per dawn, as a bonus action, you apply the wrap to yourself or a creature you can touch that has at least 1 hit point. That creature regains 1d4 hit points. This cannot restore hit points to a creature at 0 hit points — use Steadfast Binding for that purpose.
DM Notes
This item is intentionally gentle in power — it removes the need for a Medicine check to stabilize a downed ally, which is a reliable quality-of-life effect for parties without a dedicated healer. The 1d4 healing once per dawn averages 2.5 HP, which is meaningful at low levels but trivial by level 6, keeping it firmly within Common territory. Balance consideration: the stabilization effect has no charges and no resource cost — it functions as a reliable backup for any character, but it does not restore hit points or cure conditions, so it cannot substitute for actual healing. DMs should note that the Lingering Warmth bonus action is only once per dawn, preventing it from being used as a combat healing engine. The item works particularly well in low-healing parties or as a secondary item for frontline fighters and rogues who want some self-sufficiency.
