Cinderforge
Cinderforge was hammered in the lower foundries of Skarrath Undur, a fire giant city buried beneath a collapsed volcanic caldera. The gauntlet was designed not as a weapon but as a foreman's tool, used to signal the start of a smelting shift by releasing pressurized heat blasts that echoed through miles of tunnels. A company of deep scouts recovered it after the city fell silent, and none of them could agree whether the silence meant the giants were dead or simply waiting.
Mechanics
A forge-iron gauntlet that channels superheated pressure into explosive force, reshaping how its wearer controls fire on the battlefield.
Smelted Will
While wearing this gauntlet, you have resistance to fire damage. Additionally, you cannot be frightened by creatures with the Giant creature type.
Pressure Cast
As a bonus action, you compress superheated air into a visible, fist-sized slag-sphere and hurl it at a point you can see within 120 feet. Each creature within 15 feet of that point must make a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 6d8 fire damage and is knocked prone. On a successful save, it takes half damage and is not knocked prone. The ground in the blast radius becomes difficult terrain until the end of your next turn as cooling slag hardens across the stone floor.
Deep Forge Pulse
Once per dawn, you slam the gauntlet against any surface and release a shockwave of deep-earth heat. All creatures of your choice within 30 feet must succeed on a DC 17 Constitution saving throw or take 8d10 fire damage and become incapacitated until the end of their next turn as the heat seizes their muscles. Creatures that succeed take half damage and are not incapacitated. Creatures with resistance or immunity to fire damage are unaffected by the incapacitated condition even if they fail.
DM Notes
The primary balance consideration is Pressure Cast: at DC 17 with 6d8 fire damage and prone on a failed save, this is a powerful bonus action with no resource cost. In open terrain against clusters of enemies it is exceptional. In corridors or against fire-immune creatures such as devils or red dragons it loses significant value, so consider seeding those encounters to provide counterplay. Deep Forge Pulse is deliberately devastating but once-per-dawn and affects a broad area, making it a fight-opening tool. Alert players will position allies outside the 30-foot radius before triggering it. The incapacitation condition is gated behind the Constitution save and stripped from fire-resistant creatures, which prevents it from trivializing encounters against the most thematically fire-aligned enemies. The gauntlet functions for any class since neither active ability references a class feature.
