While attuned to this ring, you can spend 1 minute in silent concentration to receive cryptic but accurate guidance from the ghost bound within the ring — a murdered librarian who once catalogued forbidden tomes. Once per day, you may ask the ring one question that can be answered with a skill check. The ghost makes that check using a +7 modifier, and you may use the result in place of your own. You do not make a roll of your own; the result is simply the ghost's. This functions for Intelligence (History), Intelligence (Arcana), Intelligence (Investigation), and Wisdom (Perception) checks only.
Shelved Wards — 5 charges, recharge 1d4+1 at dawn
The ring holds 5 charges. When a creature you can see within 60 feet casts a spell, you may use your reaction and expend 1 charge to conjure a swirling wall of spectral pages around yourself or one willing creature within 30 feet. The warded creature gains a +3 bonus to the saving throw against that spell (applied before the roll) and, if the spell requires an attack roll, the warded creature's AC is treated as 3 higher for the purpose of that one attack roll only. This ward lasts only for that triggering spell.
Screaming Folio
As an action, expend 2 charges to hurl a compressed mass of spectral parchment at a point you can see within 60 feet. Each creature within a 15-foot radius of that point must make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 4d8 psychic damage and is deafened until the end of its next turn. On a successful save, a creature takes half the psychic damage and is not deafened. The screaming text tears through concentration: any creature that fails the save and is concentrating on a spell must make a second DC 16 Constitution saving throw or lose concentration.
Ghost in the Binding
Whenever you are reduced to 0 hit points while attuned to this ring, the ghost erupts outward in a burst of cold, ink-dark energy. Each creature within 10 feet of you must succeed on a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened of you until the end of its next turn. You do not need to expend charges for this effect; it triggers automatically. This effect can trigger only once per long rest.

The Screaming Folio's concentration-breaking secondary save is the most dangerous feature at tier 2; if your campaign features many martial-heavy parties who rarely concentrate on spells, this secondary effect becomes largely cosmetic. Marginalia Whispers is a once-per-day information tool — the +7 modifier is high but mirrors a skilled NPC answer and keeps a librarian-ghost fantasy feeling authoritative.
