Ring of the Undying Hearth
Forged in the hearth-fire of a legendary northern hall where heroes carried their wounded companions through impossible sieges, this burnished copper ring is etched with interlocking knotwork that never grows cold to the touch. Those who have worn it speak of hearing distant singing when they are near death — a chorus of voices urging them and those they protect to endure. Warriors and wardens alike have passed it down through generations, each one swearing the ring kept them fighting long after they should have fallen.
Mechanics
A ring that surges with protective energy when its wearer is brought low, mending wounds and bolstering nearby allies.
Hearthflare
This ring has 4 charges and regains 1d3+1 expended charges at dawn. As a bonus action, you can expend 1 charge to send a pulse of warm golden light to a creature you can see within 30 feet. That creature regains 2d6 hit points.
Bulwark Surge
As a reaction, when you or a creature within 30 feet of you is reduced to 0 hit points, you can expend 2 charges to immediately grant that creature 3d6 temporary hit points. These temporary hit points last for 1 minute. If this effect brings the creature back above 0 hit points from unconsciousness (by granting temporary hit points that apply before the creature would fall unconscious, when the triggering damage reduces them to exactly 0), the creature remains conscious with those temporary hit points instead of falling unconscious.
Shared Resilience
Once per dawn, as an action, you expend 2 charges to emanate a burst of restorative warmth. Each creature of your choice within 20 feet of you regains 1d8 hit points and can immediately end one of the following conditions affecting it: frightened or poisoned.
4 charges
Recharges 1d3+1 at dawn
DM Notes
This ring is intentionally useful across many classes, making it excellent party loot without feeling wasted on a non-spellcaster. The Barbarian context is well-served because a Barbarian standing at the front is ideally positioned to use all three abilities at range 20–30 ft. Balance note: Bulwark Surge requires 2 charges and triggers as a reaction, so the player faces real resource tension — using it defensively means fewer charges for Hearthflare's steady healing. With only 4 charges and a variable recharge (1d3+1, average 2.5), the attuned character will typically have 5–7 charges across two days before running dry. Shared Resilience is limited to once-per-dawn to prevent the multi-target heal from trivializing short-rest attrition. DMs should note that Bulwark Surge does not actually restore a creature to consciousness from 0 HP in most cases — it prevents the fall to 0 by granting temp HP when the creature is exactly reduced to 0, which is a narrow and satisfying clutch moment rather than a reliable revival tool. Consider letting NPCs recognize the ring's warmth as a cue to rally around its wearer.
