Veilweaver's Shard
Carved from a lens recovered at the site of a collapsed mage's tower, the Veilweaver's Shard still pulses faintly with the frustrated energy of spells that were never completed. Scholars of the Athenaeum believe the shard absorbed decades of broken concentration, transforming residual arcane tension into something almost useful. Some who carry it report hearing a quiet hum just before they lose focus — as though the shard is already preparing its retaliation.
Mechanics
A crystalline focus that sharpens spell concentration and releases a burst of arcane force when concentration is broken.
Steadfast Conduit
While using this shard as your spellcasting focus, you gain advantage on Constitution saving throws made to maintain concentration on a spell, but only when the damage that triggered the saving throw was 15 or less. For damage exceeding 15, the saving throw is made normally.
Arcane Fracture
When your concentration on a spell ends for any reason — including willingly dropping it — the shard releases a burst of arcane energy as a reaction. Each creature of your choice within 10 feet of you must succeed on a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or take 2d4 force damage. On a successful save, they take no damage. This property can be used once per dawn.
DM Notes
The Steadfast Conduit advantage is intentionally narrow — it only activates for low-damage hits (15 or less), meaning it helps most against many small attacks rather than a single massive blow. This prevents it from trivializing concentration for high-level encounters. Arcane Fracture is once per dawn and deals modest force damage in a small radius, making it a consolation prize rather than a reliable combat tool. The shard works best in the hands of a concentration-reliant caster who frequently draws fire from multiple enemies. Be cautious if the party fights in tight corridors where the 10-foot burst might clip allies; remind the player that targets are chosen, so friendly fire is never accidental. Withholding attunement here is intentional — the benefits are limited enough that the item functions well as open-access party loot.
