Warmlight Vial
Warmlight Vials are crafted by battlefield chaplains who collect the last embers from a dying hearthfire and seal them in glass touched by morning dew. The liquid inside never quite stops glowing, as though something small and stubborn refuses to go out. Soldiers who carry them swear the vials pulse gently whenever a companion nearby is in danger, like a second heartbeat warding against despair.
Mechanics
A small vial of warm golden liquid that, when uncorked and held, allows a creature to stabilize a dying ally at range once per day.
Breath of the Beacon
As an action, you uncork the Warmlight Vial and hold it aloft. Choose one creature you can see within 30 feet of you that has 0 hit points and is making death saving throws. That creature immediately succeeds on its next death saving throw. This property can be used once per day; the vial refills with warmth at dawn.
Lingering Comfort
While the vial is uncorked and held in your hand, any creature within 5 feet of you that spends Hit Dice during a short rest may reroll any single Hit Die result of 1, taking the new result. The vial must remain uncorked for the duration of the short rest for this benefit to apply.
DM Notes
This item is deliberately gentle in power. Breath of the Beacon does not restore hit points — it only guarantees one successful death save, which gives the party more time to reach a downed ally without trivializing the danger of going unconscious. At levels 3–5, death saves are tense and meaningful, so one guaranteed success per day is a real comfort without being a free revive. Lingering Comfort is broadly useful but only on short rests, so it rewards good resource management rather than changing combat. Consider placing this item in the hands of a soldier NPC or a fallen healer to reinforce the heroic tone of the campaign.
