Verdance
The Thornweavers of the Kaelith Basin once believed that the earth itself grieved when living things died upon it, and that grief could be gathered like rain. Verdance was sewn over fourteen seasons from rootfiber drawn only from soil where great defenders had fallen shielding others, binding that accumulated sorrow into something that chooses life over ruin. It passed from healer to healer across three centuries, always surfacing when a war threatened to extinguish a people rather than merely defeat an army.
Appearance
A deep green cloak threaded with pale root-veins that visibly pulse when the wearer takes damage.
Mechanics
A cloak woven from living earth-fiber that hardens your body against harm, sharpens your defenses, and channels the soil's deep restorative memory into your allies.
Stone-Fiber Resilience
You have resistance to bludgeoning damage, and you gain a +2 bonus to your AC.
Rootward Pulse
Whenever a creature you can see within 30 feet of you drops to 0 hit points, the cloak drinks in that vital release. The next creature you touch before the end of your next turn regains 3d8 + 6 hit points. This effect can trigger no more than once per turn.
Verdant Surge
As an action, you cause a surge of restorative growth to radiate from you. Each creature of your choice within 20 feet regains 4d10 hit points and is freed from the poisoned condition if it has it. Once you use this ability, you cannot use it again until the next dawn.
DM Notes
The +2 AC bonus stacks with any armor the wearer is already using, which is intentional at very rare rarity but worth tracking alongside items like a shield or Cloak of Protection. Rootward Pulse is the item's most powerful sustained effect in longer encounters: in a fight with multiple creatures dropping to 0 HP, it can deliver substantial healing without costing actions. Consider whether your encounter design often features minion-wave patterns, since those encounters will make Rootward Pulse dramatically stronger than in single-boss fights. Verdant Surge is the emergency tool and once-per-dawn prevents it from trivializing resource attrition. The resistance to bludgeoning damage is meaningful but narrow enough to feel situational rather than dominant.
